Hedi Salami - #00

Heidi Salami is a 32-year-old native Phoenician. She graduated from Central High in '93 and then went on to attend Phoenix College and ASU as a Photography and Math Major. Ms. Salami worked many brainless jobs during her college years; picture framer, tattoo shop receptionist and computer chip programmer, to name a few. After five years of not being that interested in college and working too many senseless jobs, she decided to get more serious about life and join the Army at the age of 23. It took two years for her to complete her training in Boot Camp, Combat Medic School and Licensed Practical Nurse School. At the end of her training she returned back to Phoenix and served in the Army Reserves for 4 years as a nurse. In her civilian life she also worked as a LPN in long term psych care. Ever seen One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest? Heidi Salami used to work as a real live Nurse Ratched. Heidi married her long time friend from high school when she was 27. A year and a half later she gave birth to their son. She has been a stay at home mom since, and has only worked part-time as an instructor for a nurse assistant course. Her husband worked as a crane operator, until at the beginning of this year he was deployed to Afghanistan with his Army National Guard Unit. Just before Mr. Salami left to his obligations he made sure to "leave a bun in the oven". Heidi gave birth to the second Lil' Salami on 7/7/07. That little baby girl is destined for good luck. All of the Salami's were finally united last month during Sergeant Salami's 2 weeks of leave. Ms. Salami keeps herself busy by caring for her 3-year-old son, 4-month-old daughter, exercising, and working on home improvement projects. She yearns for the safe return of her husband in March, but is very thankful for the support of her mom, younger sister and her close derby sisters.

As for roller derby… Ann Thrash has been one of her best friends for 14 years. Thrash joined the AZ Derby Dames first and then asked Salami if she was interested too. Heidi has been a part of the AZDD since March '06. She chose to join the Brutal Beauties, because her favorite color is pink. Her husband thought up her skate name and she thought that 00 was just a cool number to have. The November bout should be interesting to watch as Ann Thrash (Coffin Dragger) and Heidi Salami (Brutal Beauty) put their long time friendship aside and battle it out for the Championship.
