FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 4, 2006 ARIZONAS NEWEST ALL-GIRL ROLLER DERBY LEAGUE IS SKATING ON TO THE ARIZONA SCENE Ready to show Arizona what they are made of, And it’s not sugar & spice and everything nice! Phoenix, AZ – They are the new girls on the block, but they pack a mean punch. The Arizona Derby Dames are Arizona’s newest and fastest growing All-Girl Roller Derby league. It is comprised of veteran skaters from other leagues and fresh meat new to the sport. The league is establishing its place in the Arizona Roller Derby scene with its “Live.Fast.Die.Pretty” attitude.
Started by the well known Suzy Homewrecker, Joan Threat, All The Way Mae and Prima Donna, the league was formed in August of 2005 when they decided to start a new league with a new attitude. “The Arizona Derby Dames promotes friendship and competition between determined, beautiful, unique and most of all tough women” says Homewrecker. Having previously skated for TXRD (Texas Roller Derby, Lonestar Roller girls) she brings a lot of drive, passion and experience to the new league. She would like the Arizona Derby Dames to be Arizona’s first banked track league, a new spectacle that the Arizona public has not been exposed too.
The Roller-Derby resurgence started in Austin, Texas in 2001 by what is now known as Texas Roller Derby. From their humble beginnings Roller Derby has blossomed into the nation’s fastest growing sport. With over 42 leagues forming nationally in 5 years. The sport even has it’s own reality show on A&E and media attention from all the major networks. The Arizona Derby Dames is comprised of 3 teams, the Coffin Draggers (Living Dead Dolls/Zombie Ghouls), Brutal Beauties (Beauty Pageant Rejects) and the Bombshells (WWII pin-up Bomber girls). With new girls joining weekly the league will soon have enough players to fill a fourth team and to start ‘bouting in June. Ladies from all walks of life are flocking to join the league because of its open environment. The skaters are moms, business professionals and teachers. The League doesn’t discriminate and is open to skaters of all levels. You just need the common drive and passion for Roller Derby.
