FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 12, 2006 ARIZONA DERBY DAMES TO HOLD FIRST EXHIBITION BOUT JUNE 30 AT THE CASTLE SPORTS CLUB Arizona Derby Dames event will benefit the Arizona Coalition against Domestic Violence Phoenix, AZ – Phoenix’s newest and fastest growing all-girl roller derby league, the Arizona Derby Dames will be premiering their league at a flat track exhibition bout, featuring three separate teams on June 30, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. at The Castle Sports Club. Teams competing will be the Brutal Beauties (beauty pageant rejects), the Bombshells (WWII pin-up bomber girls) and the Coffin Draggers (living dead dolls/zombie ghouls). Individual skaters will be introduced and team uniforms will be unveiled. This exhibition match will mark the beginning of the Arizona Derby Dames’ pre-season, which will last throughout the summer, until their banked track regular season begins in the fall of 2006. The Castle Sports Club is located at 11420 North 19th Avenue Phoenix, AZ 85029-3604 (602-331-2582). Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. with the bout starting at 8:00 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased for $5 at the following locations: Plush Living, My Ruka’s Garage, Cowtown, Go Kat Go, Eastside Records, Rios Distributions and the Castle Sports Club. Tickets will be $8 the night of the bout, with $2 off ticket price at the door for every working cell phone with charger donated to benefit the Arizona Coalition against Domestic Violence. On June 30th, each team will compete against the others during a three period bout. For the first 20-minute period, the Brutal Beauties will go head to head with the Coffin Draggers. Second period, watch Brutal Beauties take on the Bombshells. The final twenty minutes, the Bombshells will bout with the Coffin Draggers. For those bad girls who play dirty, the penalty wheel will be spun, winning them such punishments as a Pillow Fight, the much-maligned Magic Marker Mustache, or the dreaded Slap Street (where audience members could win a chance to paddle those skaters who misbehave). Veteran roller girls Suzy Homewrecker, Joan Threat, All The Way Mae and Prima Donna started the Arizona Derby Dames league in the summer of 2005. These four dames wanted a new all-girl league to take over the world on roller skates. “Some girls are experienced skaters and have skated with other all-girl leagues; some are brand new to the game but now have excellent skills and are ready to compete. Either way it is going to be one hell of a good time.” according to Homewrecker. To add to the festivities, two Phoenix bands will be performing, concessions and beer will be available, and AZ Derby Dames merchandise featuring logos and images of your favorite teams and skaters will be on sale. Female illusionist, Miss Mya McKenzie, will perform the National Anthem a premier drag queen in the Valley of the Sun. Raffles will be held for VIP seats in the middle of the rink, dead center of the action, as well as prize bags. This will be a family event. Don’t miss the party. The league also is gearing up for their first inter-league bout with Florida’s Tampa Bay Derby Darlings at Rollercon, an all girl roller derby league convention in Las Vegas, at the end of July. The AZ Derby Dames’ first regular season will be held this fall in a Phoenix facility where their banked track will be permanently housed. Written by Julie Cozzo, the Bombshells own Vintage Vixen.
